12 Steps: v. 1.2
THE TWELVE STEPS OF POLITICAL DETOX
WE:1. Admitted we were powerless over politics – mostly with regard, but not limited, to, stressing over daily news media accounts and opinion.
2. Came to believe that news media are NOT a Power Greater Than Ourselves and can never restore sanity to society even if we pay constant attention to them.
3. Made a decision to take back our will and our lives from the coveted news media.
4. Made a searching and fearless political inventory of ourselves and our social beliefs, and ultimately lowered the priority of such things.
5. Admitted to ourselves and others the exact nature of our political orientations, attitudes, anger and bias.
6. Were entirely ready to ignore outside political opinion, journalism and news for long periods of time.
7. Decided to humbly disregard the political bias of others, no matter how ignorant they may appear to us.
8. Made a list of all persons we had previously demonized because of their political beliefs, words, or actions, and became willing to laugh them off as largely irrelevent.
9. Made direct attempts at reconciliation with former political enemies and pointed out that, though we might disagree on basic social and political issues, we do not hurt ourselves (with anger) over these any more.
10. Continued to avoid the addictive behavior of stressing over the political attitudes and activities of others; again, because we are mostly powerless to affect the logic of others.
11. Sought through meditation, calm discussion and real human activities to improve our lives without interference from biased media sources.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these previous eleven steps, we tried to convince others to give less credibilty to journalists and news media personalities who profit from their game and from the fear (and addiction) that they promote.
